Mounted Howard Clark Bainite Daisho

The reputation of Howard Clarks Bainite blades is widely known and respected for their performance, durability, and simplistic beauty. This Daisho set is ready for enjoyment.

Both swords were mounted and polished through the services of Fred Lohman Company. Fred has been fitting out swords for many years and specializes in an abundant inventory of sword parts. The inspiration for their design was drawn from the image of a similar set found in "The Craft of the Japanese Sword" by Yoshindo Yoshihara, and Leon and Hiroko Kapp. The wakizashi is in the design of an Aikuchi style which lacks the normally mounted tsuba.

Both are mounted en-suite with gold silk ito over dark brown lacquered samegawa, dark brown ishime (stone textured) lacquered saya with black accents, copper seppa, and gold dragon menuki. Both saya also have gold shitodome, and black sageo. The fuchi are also both the same in simple Higo style, and the kashira are both black horn which the ito crosses over in a more elegant and formal style. Both habaki are forged copper by Howard Clark

Both blades display the gentle notare hamon with yakitsume boshi typical to these works of Howard Clark. They also display a whiteish utsuri layer floating ubove the hamon. I am not aware of who in particular may have polished these swords. The polishing was part of the services of Fred Lohman who subcontracts the polishing work out. The level of polish they are in is commensurate with the pricing packages offered by Fred Lohman company. They are very sharp and suitable for enjoyment as martial arts grade swords, and/or for display. They are light and have a nice feel in hand.

It is my feeling that the set would take on a moderately better appearance if the copper seppa and habaki were gilded to harmonize with the menuki, and shitodome. As a service to the buyer if they so desire, I will have them plated in gold to further accent the mountings at no additional charge. Burgandy synthetic fiber koshirae bags are also included with this set.
