Howard Clark Forge Folded Katana
Offered as is on Consignment: $4800.00

A beautiful Katana by Howard Clark forged of steel made by Darryl Meier. This sword was forged about 6 years ago but was never fully finished. It was recently ground to shape by Howard and is now available for sale. Early in Howard’s sword making career, he used a polymer quench that lent to some different characteristics in the final works. Two of these are visable in a tight bright hamon and shallower sori that lends to a bit sakizori above the middle of the blade. The hada is very tight and skillfully forged. The hamon has Koshi no Hiraita gunome, and slightly Togari Gunome based on Notare. The boshi is Notarekomi. The hada is a very very tight itame with areas of compression and expansion.

It is sure to be a gorgeous work when polished, and is an excellent example of Howards forge folded works that he isn’t commissioning these days, and the union of Darryl Meier’s steel brings yet more sentiment as he also no longer as active in steel making as he used to be. Certainly a very difficult blade to find from the earlier times of their sword making collaboration.
