Hizen Nagasaki Dragonflies Set - Fuchi kashira and tsuba
SOLD

This excellent set of iron fuchi, kashira, and tsuba, is custom boxed with NBTHK Hozon papers attributing them to Hizen Nagasaki. Hizen swords are abundant, but fittings directly attributed to the region are unique and rare. They are a very large and interesting set, with dragonflies and vines. The tsuba is an unusual shape called “wangata” meaning “bowl shaped” showing a distinctly cupped shape to one side. The fuchi and kashira also have a nice shakudo rim and shitodome. The rims are attached to a sleeve that slips inside the fuchi and kashira forming a nice frame to the pieces. The patina is a nice russet brown. The rendering has subtle Namban influences without the bold designs one might normally expect. This would be a great set for a collection or for mounting, particularly for a special Hizen blade.

Fuchi Measures 40 mm x 24 mm

Tsuba is 92 mm x 90 mm
