Shinshinto Tanto by Kusano Yoshiaki

Yoshiaki worked in the mid 19th century and was a student of Gassan Sadayoshi. He is rated in Fujishiro’s Shinto Hen as Chujosaku.

This tanto is in Kanmuri shape and is 26.0 cm (10 1/4 inches) long. The hada is itame with mokume. The hamon starts in a rising sugu and becomes gunome midare in nie deki. The nie are bright, well formed, and well distributed, with good penetration toward the edge forming deep ashi. There are also some sunagashi. The boshi is komaru and turns back very deeply along the mune.

It is mounted with a solid silver habaki and shirasaya.

It is signed Kusano Yoshiaki (wo) tsukuru, and dated Winter of 1865.
